    How to use the grade calculator

    1. Choose how your class is graded: weighted categories (from the syllabus) or total points.
    2. For each category, enter your grade and its weight — or for each assignment, the points earned and possible.
    3. Read your grade and letter; if weights are missing, you see your grade so far and what’s left.

    Weighted grade formula

    Grade = Σ (category grade × weight) ÷ Σ weights. Weights let a teacher make tests count more than homework: a 40% test category moves your grade twice as much as a 20% homework category.

    In points classes every point counts the same, so the grade is simply points earned ÷ points possible — big tests matter more only because they have more points.

    How do I calculate my grade with weighted categories?

    Multiply each category’s grade by its weight, add the results, and divide by the total weight. Homework 95% (20%), quizzes 85% (20%), tests 80% (40%) and a project 90% (20%) give (95×20 + 85×20 + 80×40 + 90×20) ÷ 100 = 86%.

    How do I calculate my grade from points?

    Add up the points you earned and divide by the points possible. 18/20, 45/50 and 70/80 make 133 of 150 points, or 88.7%. Choose “Total points” above and enter each assignment.

    What if my weights don’t add up to 100%?

    Then some of the class hasn’t been graded yet — often the final. The calculator shows your grade so far (the graded part scaled to 100%) and how much is still to come, with a link to work out what you need on it.

    Can I type a score like 18/20?

    Yes. In weighted mode each grade can be a percent (92) or a fraction (18/20); fractions are turned into percents for you.

    What letter grade is my percentage?

    The letter shown uses the standard US scale: A 90%+, B 80%+, C 70%+, D 60%+, below 60% F. For plus and minus grades and GPA points, see percentage to GPA.

    Can I drop my lowest score?

    Yes. In “Total points” mode set “Drop lowest” to the number of scores your teacher drops. The lowest scores by percentage are left out, so a 5/10 quiz is dropped before an 18/20 one.

    How do I add extra credit?

    Enter it under “Extra credit” as the percentage points it adds to your grade — for example 2 if extra credit raises your grade by 2%. If your teacher adds extra credit as points on an assignment instead, just include them in that assignment’s earned points.

    Is my data saved?

    Only in your browser, so your categories are still there when you check your grade again. Nothing is uploaded.
